Carlisle Match Result

We couldn't have wished for a better day to host our first match of the season and Captain Trevor Wilson together with playing partner Mike Mapleton got us off to a winning start against Carlisle's Captain (and former Sandpiper) Doug Welch.
Most of the rest of the team followed suit to record a 7 - 3 victory to carry forward to the return match at Carlisle.
Octavia and David supplied a super meal to finish of a very pleasant day.

Thursday 24th March

Shirt sleeves weather today and David Barnes made the most of his loan of Bernard's Yonex driver to win with 38 points. Harry Wright's 36 earned him second prize.
The majority of the remaining 23 scores were described as c**p.
Next Tuesday's team sheet is on our notice board and will be published here tomorrow.

Self Explanatory

Dave,
Would you mind publishing the following on our weblog as it didn’t seem to bother Terry, as it wouldn’t as he always goes out first.
For those Sandpipers that were not aware, for the second time in not too many weeks a rogue ball appeared in the chute. Today it meant that the last fourball became a three ball and consequently had to wait on virtually every shot for the full 18 holes.
Extra vigilance will be needed to see where this ball is coming from, or a different method of collecting the balls prior to the draw may be needed.
Somebody may think they are being clever, but I think they are being very childish.
Cheers
Trevor

Tuesday 22nd March

Today's Bogey competition wasn't played in the warmest or calmest conditions but David Low pegged away quietly to come in +3, beating Roy Williams on the back nine. This was eclipsed by Jeff Smith with an incredible +9 against the CSS of 69.
The team for next Tuesday's match against Carlisle is on the notice board and should be published here by the weekend.

Thursday 17th March

Rather better scores from the 31 starters in today's benign conditions with Joe Campbell and Harry Wright scoring 39 and 38 points respectively.
Bob Hetherington called in to say that his post op recovery isn't going as well as hoped so it will be a while before he joins in again.
Tuesday's competition is a club handicap qualifying bogey competition so with the later start time that's two things to remember.

Tuesday 15th March

Too wet for play today so those that did turn up had to settle for a cup of coffee.
Our Committee were hard at work this afternoon arranging the draw for the Seniors' Open.
There are reserves so if you know you can't play you're early cancellation will be appreciated.
Also to remind everyone that on Tuesday 22nd we revert to our usual start time with ten minutes added after 12 noon to accommodate our enlarged membership.

Thursday 10th March

Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and single putt. That's how Jeff Smith got his birdie on the 5th in today's howling gale as well as identical shots and result on Tuesday.
Geoff Scott and myself felt as if we'd been mugged as did the other four when they saw Jeff's winning score of 36 points.
For those like myself who didn't know, Malcolm Donald has recently had surgery and one or two set backs during recovery. He was out practicing with Barbara on Tuesday and no doubt we'll see his smiling face back with us soon.

Tuesday 8th March

25 brave souls went out.
24 returned, Bernard had to go home after 12 holes but very good for a man of 86 as it was very windy and cold.
Jeff Smith 32pts.  H/C 13 to 11
Joe Campbell 29pts. H/C  18 to 17

Thursday 3rd March

Fortunately the overnight frost cleared away sufficiently for the course manager to open the full course just before kick off.
Ian Porter didn't stay for the after proceedings so he'll be surprised to find he's at least two shots worse off for his winning score of 36.
Geoff Scott's 33 won second place on count back.

Octavia's Sponsored Slim

Octavia has put notices on all the boards announcing her intention to slim and use the proceeds of sponsorship to support the junior section.
I don't suppose any of us would like to join her in slimming down a bit ourselves but our caterers do look after us well and I hope we'll all contribute.

Tuesday 1st March

The early morning frost was away before we started and we played in conditions better than some summer days.
It wasn't reflected in the scores though. Most of us thought that over forty was achievable but David Barnes' 37 was enough to win with David McCrum coming second with 36.
