Tuesday 19th November.

The club handicap secretary reported at a recent committee meeting how well the Sandpipers were doing at returning acceptable ( general play ) scorecards.                                        A feather in our cap.                                                                 The WHS relies on accurate score submissions to calculate a golfer's handicap. By returning acceptable scores whenever they play a measured course , golfers ensure their handicap reflects their true playing ability. Submitting honest scores upholds the integrity of the game and ensures a fair playing field for all golfers.

To that end 15 of our 19 playing today returned acceptable scorecards. Martin Fouracre won with 41 points and David Blain came second with 40 on what was a bitterly cold day for us all.

Tuesday 12th Nov 24

Thick fog, which had delayed some tee times, cleared enough to allow all 28 Sandpipers to tee off from 10.50 onwards. The first hour was very chilly but the sun broke through and became the problem as those who could launch their drives into the sky had great difficulty in seeing where they went. This did not deter Robert Fletton from winning with 40 points or Harry Wright securing second with 38 points.

For the record, our Hon. Sec. Arthur Thompson spoke to us all prior to going out on the subject of R&A rules of golf and the onus on us to sign our cards and when to sign them. Abiding by these ensures that we uphold the principles of fair play and sportsmanship and comply with England Golf's rules when handicap calculations and tournament results are generated. The R&A rules in focus were the marking and replacing of a ball on the green and the reasonable actions that are allowed when searching for and identifying a ball once found. Excessive actions which result in improved conditions for your next shot could result in a penalty.  Our Hon. Sec. spoke at length of the strong bond we have as a group of golfers and the resulting enjoyment from battling each other for a small financial reward. Everybody plays their part in ensuring that this continues and flourishes.

Our Donation to the 4th Regiment Veterans Condolence fund has now increased to £201 after a further two additions.

Tuesday 5th November Sandpipers raised £171 for our veterans.

Well done to Howard Foster for organising today's event and for the supply of prizes for the winners.

20 members took part in teams of two in a PINEHURST GREENSOME off the green tees ( Both players tee off and both play a second shot but using their partners ball. Then they chose the ball in the best position and played alternate shots until holed out ).

The winners were Joe Campbell and Tony Gerbino with 49 points. They beat Tom Borthwick and Tim Herbert in a count back. Prizes for nearest the pin and nearest the pin in two were David Wood X 2, Denzil Addison and John Wraight.

Thanks to another 60 something birthday, Gerry Fisher took great pleasure in buying us all a drink.

Howard Foster, on behalf of the veterans of the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, would like to thank us all for taking part and the committee for deciding to donate the monies raised to their cause of supporting veterans and their families.
