Thursday 31st October

19 Wizards ventured out in a grey, damp, cold, breezy day. ( somebody must have cast a spell on the BBC forecast which had indicated slightly more benign conditions! )

A wise and kind wizard wearing shimmering robes and riding on a magnificent blue chariot glided effortlessly round the course. Swift by name and swift and skillful by nature, Owen took first prize with 41 points. His smile would have been even greater had the event been a Qualifier but due to us all having to use fairway mats on the Green Tees, he had to be happy with our congratulations and the cash.

David Low was 2nd with 38 points!!

Tuesday 29th Oct 24

24 played in bright sunny conditions Winner on the day was David Blain with  an enviable 44 points and second with 40 points, matching his points score of last week, was John Gibson who beat Gordon Shaw on the countback.

Belated thanks to Owen Swift for his birthday drinks which were gratefully received.

Thursday 17th Oct 24

What was forecast to be a sunny day turned out to be a windy day with the occasional squally shower. The weather obviously had its effect on us with the best score of the day a 34 from Martin Foreacre just beating Bob Fletton who had a 33 points.  This was round 7 of the Autumn League and well supported with 27 taking part.

Clark Black, David Blain and Jon Derry won with a 58.9 net (5.1 handicap) ie gross 64.

After many years of loyal and constructive service on the Sandpiper Committee, Joe Campbell, David Wood and Brian Taylor all retired at the AGM. They received a hearty round of thanks for all the work they have put into making the Sandpipers a success and an enjoyable experience.

Next Tuesday is a Texas Scramble which will start at the usual time of 11.00 from the Green Tees.

Brindley Salver - Tuesday 1st October 24

13 teams of two took to the course to compete in the greensome Competition for the Brindley Salver. Clark Black kindly went out with the first pair as their marker. Handicaps were calculated as 60% of the lowest and 40% of the higher - added together and rounded up. Green and Yellow tees were used with comp entered on the yellow card as a medal competition. The sun stayed away and the easterly wind was still with us but this did not deter our winners Joe Campbell and Owen Swift who had a net 61, winning by one stroke from the next best score. No doubt the 2 they had on the 9th contributed to their winning score as it did to Owen winning the nearest the pin. (If you ask Owen he will gladly talk you through how he guided it towards the left hand bunkers, using their edges and slopes to eventually roll his ball to 3ft from the pin!)
