Thursday 28th May

Another good show of Sandpipers, now we're all waiting to see if the further reduction of restrictions will make any difference to the playing format.

From a letter sent to the ‘The Times’ newspaper
To continue your theme on names for golf shots: the ‘Dominic Cummings’ - a long drive out of bounds.
And for those who enjoy bar room jokes:

Road Closure

There are signs up showing the road into Silloth from Allonby and Aspatria will be closed from 1st June for six weeks, presumably to fix the flooding problem on the corner of Stanwix Holiday Park.
All traffic will have to come in by the Wigton road so no doubt we will all be looking for rat runs to make the detour as short as possible.

Update

No real news, just to say that Sandpipers are taking advantage of the booking system and turning out in good numbers. It has been suggested that we try to try to book with different playing partners but obviously that would need to be sorted by phone in advance but if anyone is looking for a game that hasn't got a regular partner, let me or Joe know and we'll try to sort something out. Peter Taylor managed to get over for a game with Gerry and Harry and myself observed the 50 metre apart rule for most of the round today.

Still Sprightly

Tommy Neilly recently celebrated his 87th birthday and is back on the course again protecting his handicap.
Many Happy Returns Tommy.

Back on Course

Good to see so many Sandpipers booking in since the course opened and I hope your legs don't ache as much as mine after 18 holes. My weather forecast says rain over the weekend but just cloudy for Tuesday so fingers crossed.

Penrith Open Team Competition

Not unsurprisingly Penrith have decided to cancel the event even though it was much later in the year.
Malcolm Platts sends greetings to everyone from afar but sad to report the he is now suffering from delusions as he thinks he's going to take £1 off me next time we play together.

Booking Tee Times

The following information is by email and as I understand it.
For the time being the allocation of tee times for the various groups (societies) is suspended, therefore those of us wishing to play will do so through the BRS system and not limited to Tuesday and Thursday. All tee reservations will be limited to two players. Walkways around the clubhouse will be directionally signposted. The trolley shed can be accessed but only to remove trolleys.
I'm sure everyone will be a bit disappointed but initially there will be high demand from all members for the spaces available and I'm sure the Club Committee will endeavour to return us to normal as soon as possible. Now to find a friend to play with!

Ireland Golf

For those who haven't heard, the republic has plans to reopen golf with very restrictive conditions. In the meantime, congratulations to David Low who solved all the quiz questions I forwarded by email and take precautions when setting off for your first trip to the links.
