The bare minimum for a qualifier turned out today.
Terry Stubbs came first with 35 points and Willie Smith second with 32 on a day that started mild and gloomy, progressed to drizzle that died down and followed by a strong breeze with a bit of sunshine.

Thursday 22nd December
Christmas came early for Robin Binny whose 40 points scooped the £11 pool of the ten Sandpipers plus an honorary member for the day.
A Merry Christmas to everyone who reads this blog.

Tuesday 20th December
Twenty Sandpipers turned up today which was the required minimum for the abandoned bottle trot.
Seventeen retired to the bar afterwards to get warm again and applaud the twelve prize winners.
Edward Harle and myself tied for 1st prize with Edward winning on count back to the 18th hole but as a bottle of Grouse was for each of the 1st and 2nd prizes I was quite happy.
Our thanks to Geoff Waite for his work in making the day a success.
From today, any ball requiring to be moved from GUR to a drop zone may be placed rather than dropped.

Thursday 15th December
Not surprising that only fourteen turned out in a chilly breeze but the day turned quite pleasant in the afternoon.
Ian Porter's 34 was sufficient to get his handicap reduced to 7 and Joe Campbell losing another shot with 30 points.

Christmas Dinner
Twenty nine Sandpipers sat down for a very enjoyable meal plus the odd drink or two.
The bottle prizes will be up for grabs the first time 20 or more of us turn up to play on either a Tuesday or Thursday. A sensible decision as it means sufficient will enter to cover some of the costs, and setting a firm date may also have to be cancelled due to inclement weather.

Annual Bottle Trot and Luncheon
Owing to the weather forecast for howling gales tomorrow our competition and match secretaries have decided to postpone the golf competition rather than risk uncertainty and a potential financial loss on the high quality alcoholic beverages purchased as prizes.
The meal will be served at 12.30pm and the 9.00am tee time is still available for anyone that wishes to turn up for a non qualifying game.
Please spread the word around to everyone you know, especially those without 'puters.

Tuesday 6th December
Bionic Tommy Neilly returned to form scoring a winning 36 points, one ahead of Geoff Waite and the other seventeen entries in chilly conditions.
A reminder about next Tuesday's 9.00am start followed by our Xmas dinner.
There are currently 29 names on the list (make sure you have specified your menu choices) but if the weather looks unfavourable and you don't want to take a chance it is suggested you phone after 9.00 to see if sufficient have played to warrant the 2.30pm lunch or whether it will be brought forward to 12.30pm.
Some very bad news - Octavia's father died suddenly last weekend and I'm sure we all offer sincere condolences.

Thursday 1st December
From shirt sleeves weather to long johns in two weeks but eighteen turned out to brave the chilly wind.
Roy Williams won with 34 points on count back against Joe Campbell and Terry Stubbs managed to score a par!
I hear that John Tudor is recovering well from his recent op and John Gibson is regularly at the club now although not fit enough to play yet. AP continues to challenge current medical wisdom.
