The Jimmy Banks trophy started in a shower that lasted for twelve holes, just wet enough to be unpleasant.
Tony Davis held it together with 41 points, one ahead of second placed Ian Porter.
Twenty seven of us started with two retiring and one staying out for the walk.
Time to recommend www.howdidido.com because with the new computer system installed all recorded competition scores are reproduced on line nearly instantly after the competition is closed.
It's free and allows you to keep up to date with your handicap etc.

Thursday 25th August
Congratulations to the numerous Sandpipers who put in long hours ensuring that the Seniors Open was a well organised and successful day.
Jim Gilfillan won our own Trophy for the best Sandpipers score, with Joe Campbell and Roger Cutts also in the prizes (an impressive six prizes for each of the three sections).
Tom Neilly has had his pacemaker fitted and Fay reports that he is doing well and will be out of hospital after an overnight stay.

Tuesday 24th August
Some confusion as to how many people played today (what’s new with the Sandpipers?). Most of us thought that there were 2 x 3 balls and 4 x 4 balls, which should give a total of 22 (even with my poor mathematical skills). Well only 18 finished, apparently Grant Anderson left his ball in the mix, even though he went and played his singles KO match, which left a 3 ball at the end, who for whatever reason walked in apparently after 4 holes or so and never left their money (allegedly).
After all that excitement David McCrum was 1st with 38pts beating Joe Holmes into 2nd with 37pts, handicaps cut by Terry accordingly.

Thursday 18th August
Two good scores today, Joe Campbell with 43 (who lost his pound in the four ball) and Trevor Wilson with 40 (who took it off him).
It is suggested that you write your partner's name on your card on the first tee to avoid confusion.
David Barnes will explain further if required.

Tuesday 16th August
Another foul bout of weather for about 20 minutes and subsequent strong wind caused some low scores but Grant Anderton and Sandy Tonner overcame conditions to return 38 points each, Grant with a better back 9 to win the Carrick Trophy.
Spare a thought for Tom Neilly who'se waiting for a pacemaker to be fitted in the near future and will be off golf for at least six weeks afterwards.

Workington Result
Fortunately today’s weather was fine, sunny and fairly warm with a slight breeze, for us to play our away match at Workington at the second attempt, the first being postponed due to heavy rain and strong winds.
The home and away matches against the Beckwatchers are played for the George B Shanks Trophy.
Sandpipers won there home match earlier in the season 6 to 4, but today lost the away match 6½ to 3½, therefore the Beckwatchers retain the Trophy 10½ to 9½. It has now been in Beckwatchers trophy cabinet for the last eight years. So there’s a challenge for 2012!!
Thanks for all the Sandpipers who played today.

Tuesday 2nd August
Surprisingly, in view of the damp weather and yesterday's match, sixteen Sandpipers turned up which was the ideal number for the 4BBB.
Luckily, my playing partner (and captain for 18 holes) Roger Cutts was on top form and our 51 points score was enough in playing conditions that were quite pleasant after about three holes.
No game on Thursday due to the Juniors' Open and next Tuesday is the Ronnie Thompson Trophy which is a medal competition.

Maryport Result
The weather was overcast, dry, calm & humid. The course was in good condition as usual and the greens putted very nicely (well at least I thought so).
Joe had to do some last minute shuffling of the team, but the Sandpipers came away with a good draw 4½ to 4½.
Thanks to all the Silloth Players for turning up for the match.
