Eighty six years young Bernard Keighley beat the other twenty four Sandpipers with 39 points today in blustery conditions. 38 points gave David McCrum second prize.
Please make sure that everyone playing in the Seascale match is aware that the original start time has been amended to 10.00am, half an hour earlier than originally posted on the notice board.

Thursday 21st April
Following on from Joe Penrice's excellent 43 points on Tuesday, Brian Taylor returned a gross 74 and a winning 41 points beating Richard Brogden on the back 3 countback. As they were all over 40 points these cards will go before the Club's handicap committee to see if any adjustment is required to their official handicaps.
Next Tuesday is the John Cooper Trophy.

Match v Workington
A convincing 6 - 4 win to carry forward towards regaining the Shanks ? Trophy when we meet the Beck Watchers on their home turf.
Premature Expectation
I'm informed that the charity donation is chosen by this year's champion, not the winner of the qualifier but hopefully it's only a minor setback.
Three of us are going to Turnberry on Tuesday so will someone please email the Sandpipers' competition result.

Championship Qualifier
The £2.00 entry fee for today's competition goes to the charity of the winner's choice so I'll have to give that some thought!
My 43 points won with Ian Porter second on 38 in blustery conditions. The top sixteen of today's 32 entries qualify for the knockout to be played over the summer.
Thursday is our home match against Workington.

Official Midweek Competition
A correction to the previous post - the 19th April is the start of the midweek competition.
The difficulty remains that if you wish to play in both the Sandpiper and Club competitions you will have to find someone prepared to mark two cards with possibly different handicaps.

Ellis Beattie Trophy
Captains Ann Proudlock and Trevor Wilson pulled out all the stops to provide a sunny afternoon for the fourteen pairings.
Nobody would expect to come second with 49 points but Geoff Waite and partner Kay Brown lost on count back to Margaret Routledge and Willie Smith.
Only six had scores under 40 points.
Next Tuesday is our championship qualifier which coincides with the first club weekday competition.
There has been some discussion as to whether it's possible to play in both using one card.

Tuesday 5th April
The men in white coats would have had a field day today after someone said the sun would come out and fourteen others were daft enough to believe him.
The wind was bad enough, but rain set in about noon and got progressively worse.
Mike Mapleton wasn't deterred however and his 33 points won the cash.
David Low came second with a creditable 28.
The Ellis Beattie trophy with the ladies is on Thursday and some Sandpipers have booked an earlier tee time should you wish to join them.
