Thursday 13th April

Twenty three took part in blustery and squally conditions. John Derry took second place as the best of several 35 points (11 - 10) four shots behind the winner Gordon Shaw (16 - 12).

Tommy Neilly joined the after proceedings and invited everyone to help him celebrate his 90th birthday. I'm informed that Willie Smith is recovering from a troublesome knee condition and bad news for those travelling between Workington and Maryport as the main road through Flimby will be closed for several weeks.

Sandpiper Membership

Due to the pressure of active members wishing to play, our allocated tee slots are barely enough so membership is now CLOSED for the foreseeable future. The Club secretary cannot allocate more tee times so both he and the professional are aware of the situation.

It pains me to say ( not ) that the two who came first and second on points were also drawn together, Vince Ross and Gilmour McKellar. I think the phrase “ a country mile “ was quoted by someone who was a bit fed up waiting as we were the last group in.

A good 5 games to 3 victory for the Sandpipers. Well done to all the winners. The rest of us WIIL try harder.

Next Tuesday is the John Cooper trophy, a drawn pairs competition with the winners having the highest combined points. It is also a handicap qualifying round, so entries via the touch screen. 

Tuesday 4th April

Thirty three took part today, John Derry winning with 39 points (15 - 11) and Gerry Fisher second after countback with 37 (12 - 10). Myself, David Low and Roger Cutts are booked in for the 11.50am slot on Thursday so more names are required to fill our allocation at 12 noon.
